Resto Rides is about a passion. It’s about a passion about old school cars (and some cool
trucks). It’s about the cool cars that had muscle and power in the 70’s - 90’s. It’s about a
time when we had steel doors, loud stereos, and heavy cars that needed the power to push
them. It’s about the sweet lines that Pontiac, Ford and GM gave to Americans. It’s about
tinkering with cars, getting your hands dirty, and rolling with your friends. It’s about
convertibles, go fast cars, trucks, and the memories those vehicles brought to heart.
While many are unaware of this, The Cash for Clunkers program that was pushed into
effect in 2009 was supposed to save our auto industry and create incentives for Americans
to buy more energy efficient cars. Here is a statement from Auto Tech regarding the CARS
program: “The Cash for Clunkers program that was pitched to the public as a big boost for
the economy and the environment turned out to be nothing more than a lemon, according
to a new study released by the Brookings Institution. In fact, the Car Allowance Rebate
System (CARS) known as Cash for Clunkers, did little to help the environment and was “far
more expensive per job created than alternative fiscal stimulus programs,” according to
new research led by Ted Gayer and Emily Parker of Brookings. “
In essence, what the Cash for Clunkers program did, was send an awful lot of “Classic
Cars” to the crusher. Hundreds of thousands of classic cars were destroyed in this
program. Dad’s ole Pontiac with the True Pontiac 400 engine was destroyed. Many of the
barn find Mustangs and Trucks went poof. This happened all over the country. The supply
of these cars in decent restorable condition is shrinking fast.
Now having stated such, there are still plenty of classic car bodies out there. The question
is, are they worth saving or will the economics of the condition of the car prevent it from
being restored? Resto Rides searches for these cars that are in good condition, and they
are getting harder and harder to find. We don’t do rust cars, and we don’t do totally
destroyed cars. Each car we do is HAND selected and evaluated from top to bottom. We
buy the cars and hold them in our inventory while restoring, so we know what we get into
with the car upfront. This keeps the price of the car down for the buyer once completed.
